Nigeria’s political landscape witnessed a rare display of cross-party unity and statesmanship today as prominent national figures, including former President Olusegun Obasanjo, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, stormed the New Event Hall of Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja, to celebrate the 60th birthday of Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, the Mutawallen Sokoto.

Born on January 10, 1966, the former Speaker of the House of Representatives (2011–2015) and two-term Governor of Sokoto State (2015–2023) is currently serving as Senator representing Sokoto South.

Senator Tambuwal’s journey—from his early days as a lawyer and legislative aide to becoming one of the North’s most influential figures—has been marked by a commitment to constitutionalism, good governance, and national unity.

 

His tenure as Speaker saw the House assert greater independence, while his governorship focused on infrastructure, education, and healthcare in Sokoto State.

 

The colloquium provided a platform for reflection on leadership and service, aligning with Tambuwal’s reputation as a bridge-builder in Nigerian politics. President Bola Tinubu also extended warm greetings to the celebrant, recognizing his contributions to public life.

On his Facebook page, Atiku write, “I just arrived at the New Event Hall, Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja, for the Tambuwal Colloquium—Leadership, Service and Statesmanship at 60, to mark the 60th birthday of H.E. Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, Mutawallen Sokoto. -AA”

Commenting, Abdulmalik Muhammad said, “The history of senator Tambuwal will never fade away in Sokoto, i see many prosperous under his able his leadership. Wishing him all the love and happiness today and forever Amen, happy sixty years birthday.”
