Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has pledged to put an end to unauthorized salary deductions affecting civil servants in Kano State.

This promise followed submission of an investigative report on the issue on Monday March 17, 2025, as contained in a statement issued by the Governor’s Spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
The report, presented at the Government House by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Umar Farouk Ibrahim, was commissioned to uncover irregularities in salary payments and ensure transparency in the system.
Receiving the report, Governor Yusuf reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to upholding workers’ rights, stressing that timely and complete salary payments remain a top priority.
“I assured civil servants during my campaign that illegal deductions and underpayments would not be tolerated. It is disheartening that these issues persist, but we are taking decisive steps to address them,” he declared.
The governor commended the investigative committee for its thorough work and vowed to carefully review and implement its recommendations.
He assured workers that any policies found to be detrimental to their welfare would be adjusted accordingly.
In a bid to enhance accountability, Governor Yusuf announced plans to introduce a pay parade system across all ministries, aimed at accurately verifying the number of civil servants and their earnings.
He also expressed concerns over discrepancies in salary payments caused by consulting firms engaged by the previous administration, promising to rectify the situation for greater efficiency.
“We will establish a high-powered committee to oversee the implementation of the paper rate system and ensure transparency in salary payments.
“Additionally, deductions linked to the National Housing Fund and other schemes will be thoroughly examined,” he added.
Governor Yusuf reiterated his administration’s unwavering support for civil servants and extended gratitude to the investigative committee for its dedication in uncovering the irregularities.
