Obasa forces chamber open, presides over 4 of 40-member Assembly plenary inside Tinubu’s Lagos

By OUR REPORTER, Lagos
He said, “President Bola Tinubu, you are now president of Nigeria no more the governor or garrison commander of Lagos State politics that you were used to be called. We are directing this to you because we know very well that Mudashiru Obasa has no liver of his own to do all of this if not by your backing.”

WATCH AS OBASA FORCEFULLY ENTERED ASSEMBLY STILL ON RECESS
Despite his removal by popular legislative vote on allegations of corruption and abuse of office as well as being in court challenging his ousting, embattled former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr. Mudashiru Ajaiyi Obasa, broke the house that had adjourned indefinitely and presided over a plenary with four other members in the house chamber, on Thursday February 27, 2025.
In videos seen by The DEFENDER’s reporters, Obasa was captured as police operatives believed to have been ordered by Abuja, armed to the teeth and in the large numbers, led him to the locked up house.
He was, however, said to have forced open doors of the house chamber and held plenary with the four members while the majority others who rejected him were sitting outside.
As at 3pm, the plenary commenced and was still on-going till about 3.30pm about the time of filing this report.
Meanwhile, over 26 other members of the Assembly were around but refused to enter the chamber in apparent loyalty and support to the substantive Speaker, Rt Hon Mojisola Lasbat Meranda.
Obasa had earlier, reportedly, announced his return as Speaker, arguing that while impeachment is a constitutional and democratic process, it must be carried out following laid down procedures.
Asked by some female Journalists how things had been as he had been away for sometimes, he said, “I was on vacation.”
Asked further why he was around when the house was in recess, Obasa answered with another question asking, “Which house?” He then continued, “Well, as you rightly said, I’m here. So, as I’m here, it simply means the house is on.”
Attempt by the Journalists to get him confirm social media report of his breaking into the Assembly was rebuffed as he asked them to go and confirm from where they got the information.
Answering further question on whether or not he had now been reinstated, he said, “As I told you, I have never been removed. There is nothing like impeachment. I told you several times that impeachment or removal is democratic and constitutional, but that in doing that, you must follow the due process. Nobody is against being removed. If I’m doing that, then it means I’m not democratic.”
Obasa was removed as speaker on January 13 while he was abroad, with Mojisola Meranda swiftly installed as his successor.
He has challenged his removal, maintaining that he is still the rightful speaker of the house. But while the court is yet to decide on his case, he has jumped the process by forcing himself into the house and presiding over four of 40-member in the Assembly chamber amidst heavy guards of police protecting that act that many have described as sacrilege, on Thursday.
One of those, who are worried about the development with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s continued silence in the public while allegedly actually was responsible underground, was heard amidst the shout in Alausa Thursday afternoon as he said, “So funny that this charade can be happening inside the Lagos of Tinubu, the President of Nigeria.”
He said, “President Bola Tinubu, you are now president of Nigeria no more the governor or garrison commander of Lagos State politics that you were used to be called. We are directing this to you because we know very well that Mudashiru Obasa has no liver of his own to do all of this if not by your backing.”
