Ex-ICAN President, Lateef Owoyemi, wants Amotekun’s activities monitored by independent body

Former President of the Institute of Chartered Accountant of Nigeria (ICAN), Otunba Lateef Owoyemi, has called for independent body  to monitor Amotekun activities deviateso it does  from set standard.

He spoke jus as the debate on the security outfit, created by governors of the Southwest of the country continued.

Otunba Owoyemi, a chieftain of Ogun State Elders Forum, said that the setting up of the outfit was a welcome idea and over due.

Speaking in a press interview at the weekend, he said that the Federal Police could not be in every part of the country at the same time; adding that security should not be left in the hands of one institution.

Owoyemi stated that developments in the country have made it imperative to establish complementary agencies that would safeguard the life and property of the citizenry.

The Managing Director of LOP Consulting urged other zones in the country to set up similar bodies in their areas.

He also called for an enabling law to give legal backing to the security organization.

The former ICAN president, however, said that there should be independent monitoring groups in each local government area, which would monitor the activities of Amotekun operatives, stating that they should comprise elders who are not politicians.
