29 Lagos lawmakers arrive court over Obasa’s removal

The DEFENDER reports that 29 lawmakers of the Lagos State House of Assembly, supporting the removal of Mudashiru Obasa as Speaker, have arrived at the Lagos State High Court for the hearing of his legal challenge.
Obasa, who was reportedly removed by 36 lawmakers on January 13, 2025, while he was out of the country, filed a lawsuit through his lawyer, Chief Afolabi Fashanu (SAN), contesting the decision.

Legal representatives for Speaker Mojisola Meranda include lead counsel Mr. Tayo Oyetibo (SAN) alongside Mr. Femi Falana (SAN), Dr. Muiz Banire (SAN), Mr. Olu Daramola (SAN), Mrs. Abimbola Akeredolu (SAN), Dr. Dada Awosika (SAN), Prof. Dayo Amokaye (SAN), Mr. Mofe Oyetibo (SAN), Mr. Olumide Oyewole, and Mr. Wunmi Okeremi.
Meanwhile, the House has condemned an alleged “unsanctioned plenary session” held on Thursday by Obasa and three members, calling it unconstitutional.
The House reaffirmed its support for Speaker Rt. Hon. Mojisola Lasbat Meranda and dismissed any speculation about her resignation.
The Assembly reiterated its commitment to upholding legislative integrity and working in the best interest of Lagosians.
