2027: Malami slams APC, says ruling party endorsing Tinubu instead of addressing economic hardship, insecurity

President Tinubu is generally believed to have started playing the 2027 politics immediately after winning election in February 2023 when he was expected to sit down and prepare himself for governance.
As Nigerians continue to wait endlessly for outcome of the press conference for the Tinubu administration’s scorecard planned to reel out from London, former Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation (MJ-AGF), Mallam Abubakar Malami (SAN), has lampooned the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for failing to make good use of their recent national summit to deliberate on economic hardship and insecurity in the country.

He wondered that the Nigeria’s ruling party could be busy endorsing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term when his first term is still afflicted with a k-leg scenario.
President Tinubu is generally believed to have started playing the 2027 politics immediately after winning election in February 2023 when he was expected to sit down and prepare himself for governance.
While reacting to his endorsement for a second term by some governors, Malami made the charge that instead of using the opportunity the national summit afforded them, the APC leaders busied themselves with endorsement of Tinubu as sole candidate in an election that is still two years away.
On May 22, all 22 All Progressives Congress (APC) governors publicly backed President Tinubu as the party’s sole presidential candidate for the 2027 election. Members of the National Assembly led by Senate President God’swill Akpabio also followed suit.
However, speaking in Abuja during a meeting organised by the National Political Consultative Group (North), Abubakar Malami, a senior advocate of Nigeria (SAN), condemned the decision.
The ex-AGF was quoted in a media report as saying Tinubu’s policies are crippling the economy of Northern Nigeria.
Malami said rather than address the myriad challenges bedevilling the country, endorsing Tinubu for a second term in office has taken centre the stage in ruling party of a supposedly acclaimed world’s most important black nation.
“Just a few days ago, the ruling party held its national summit and instead of addressing the serious issues of insecurity, economic hardship and rising poverty, it chose to focus on politics, endorsing President Bola Tinubu as sole candidate for the 2027 election that is still two years away,” Malami said.
The former AGF urged stakeholders to form a united front to “reclaim” the country and create a peaceful and prosperous Nigeria.
