2027: Don’t allow groups insisting on producing President grow into another Wike in ADC, Dele Momodu warns

“This is why, and when, ADC must rise up and enforce discipline before it is too late. This was how NYESOM WIKE held PDP by the jugular till it became too late to be dislodged or expelled. ADC should be a party of love and not a Fuji house of commotion,” Dele Momodu warned.
In a bid to detect and tame a pandemic at early stage before it grows out of hand, popular journalism veteran, Chief Dele Momodu, has urged the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to take into cognizance with a view to stopping the current situation where some groups are insisting it is either their respective candidates emerge presidential candidate of the party or no deal.

Veteran journalist and politician, Chief Dele Momodu, has cautioned the African Democratic Congress (ADC) against internal actions that could undermine its growing opposition coalition, warning the party to urgently enforce discipline to avoid a crisis similar to what befell the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with the Nyesom Wike group.
In a statement posted on his X handle titled “My Candid Advice to ADC: Avoid Another Wike Scenario…”, Momodu said the call was aimed at preventing a potential political “pandemic” by addressing early signs of division within the party.
He commended the ADC for positioning itself as a credible platform capable of challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), noting that its leadership structure—featuring respected figures such as former Senate President and retired army general, David Mark—gave the party strong credentials.
Recalling a meeting of opposition parties in Abuja last year where ADC was adopted as a unifying platform, Momodu said participation in the coalition was voluntary and premised on democratic principles.
“I was present when some members of Nigeria’s opposition political parties gathered in Abuja last year to adopt ADC as their new vehicle for driving out the ruling APC from power.
“I listened most keenly to the various speeches. No one forced anyone to join. The main conveners promised to make it an open party for all, and one that will uphold democratic tenets. No group or individual will be allowed to cause chaos, like it happened in PDP, and ADC will enforce discipline. I was most elated hearing these beautiful words. I was happy to see an Army veteran and General DAVID MARK as Chairman knowing he would brook no nonsense,” he said.
However, Momodu expressed concern over recent developments in which certain groups within the coalition were allegedly insisting that their preferred candidates must emerge as the party’s presidential flagbearer or risk the collapse of the arrangement.
“But in recent time, some groups have introduced aggression and rambunctiousness into a fledgling cooperation, and collaboration, of all. How can a coalition work if some groups insist they must produce the top ticket by donation, and coronation, without election or persuasion? Why unleash tantrums and expletives on one another as if one group can win National elections without the others?”
Momodu lamented what he described as rising aggression and disorder among some coalition members, questioning the logic of demanding automatic nomination without due process.
He warned that such behavior, if unchecked, could derail the coalition’s objective of winning national elections, stressing that no single group could succeed without the support of others.
Drawing parallels with the prolonged internal crisis in the PDP, Momodu urged the ADC leadership to act decisively.
“This is why, and when, ADC must rise up and enforce discipline before it is too late. This was how NYESOM WIKE held PDP by the jugular till it became too late to be dislodged or expelled. ADC should be a party of love and not a Fuji house of commotion,” Dele Momodu warned.
