New twist to PDP chairmanship contest as ex-Ogun Governor, Gbenga Daniel, indicates interest
The race for the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may have taken a new twist as indications emerged last night that former Governor of Ogun State and Chairman of Kresta Laurel Group, Otunba Gbenga Daniel may be contesting the apex seat.
It was reliably gathered that a political group within the leadership of the PDP is backing the candidature of the former governor.
A member of the group who spoke under the condition of anonymity disclosed: “We are more concerned about the future of our party and that is why major stakeholders made up of Governors, Ex-Governors, National Assembly caucuses amongst others, decided to come together under Renaissance to ensure a fresh start for the party.
“We are not unconscious of the new dynamics of politics, hence, our resolve that the party should try fresh hands with new idea”
The member disclosed that the choice of Gbenga Daniel was based not just on his youthful posture but also on his ability to interact freely with members and intending members of the party across every region and political party.
The elective National Convention of the PDP is billed to take place on December 9.
