FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
URGENT PRESS STATEMENT BY THE NIGERIAN CITIZENS INVESTIGATIVE PLATFORM (NICIP).SUBJECT: NATIONAL SECURITY ALERT – DEMAND FOR IMMEDIATE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY INVESTIGATION INTO ALLEGED IMPORTATION OF LETHAL SUBSTANCES.
ABUJA, NIGERIA – The Nigerian Citizens Investigative Platform (NICIP) expresses its profound alarm and grave concern regarding the recent revelations brought to light by Malam Nasiru El-Rufai. The allegations involving the importation of a “deadly poison” into our borders under the purported watch of the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), Malam Nuhu Ribadu, represent a potential threat of catastrophic proportions to the lives and safety of millions of Nigerians.
In any sovereign democracy, the primary mandate of security institutions is the preservation of life. When credible figures of high standing raise the whistle on a breach of this magnitude, it ceases to be a political matter and becomes a matter of urgent national survival. This is both terrifying and a clarion call for absolute vigilance.
OUR POSITION AND DEMANDS:
1. INDEPENDENT LEGISLATIVE INQUIRY.
NICIP hereby issues a pressured call to the National Assembly to immediately exercise its constitutional oversight powers under Sections 88 and 89 of the 1999 Constitution. We demand the constitution of a Joint Ad-Hoc Committee to investigate these claims with the highest level of transparency.2. FULL DISCLOSURE.
We demand that the ONSA and Malam Nuhu Ribadu provide an exhaustive and verifiable inventory of all specialized imports handled by the office in recent months. The Nigerian public deserves to know the nature, purpose, and current location of any substances in question.3. TECHNICAL VERIFICATION.
We call for the involvement of independent chemical and security experts to provide a technical audit. This investigation must not be shrouded in the veil of “classified information” when the lives of the electorate are at stake.WE CALL FOR CIVIC VIGILANCE.
We salute the courage of those blowing the whistle. NICIP urges all citizens to remain calm but highly vigilant. We must rise to our national duty by demanding accountability from those entrusted with our collective safety. The NICIP remains committed to its mission of social justice and safeguarding nascentdemocracy. We will not stand by while the safety of our nation is compromised. We are closely monitoring this development and will continue to mobilize civic pressure until the truth is laid bare before the Nigerian people.
