Zamfara State Govt to sanction erring Journalists undermine its peace effort

The Zamfara State Government has expressed concerned that media practitioners, most especially on the social media, have been undermining its effort by reporting fake news that could jeopardize the peace process in the state.

This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Ibrahim Dosara, while briefing journalists on the resolution of the state security committee meeting at the Zamfara State Police Command on Thursday.

He said, Zamfara state government among its resolution adopted to take appropriate action against unprofessional conduct in media practice.

Dosara said the government realised that the print and electronic media activities, especially the social media handlers undermine its effort by reporting fake news that may result in creating confusion and possible misunderstanding.

He said the Commissioner of Police, the DSS, the Civil Defence and Commissioner for Information have been saddled with the responsibility of ensuring compliance to professionalism in media practice as well as watch over cyber crimes and are committed to tracking any journalist found wanting for proper prosecution.

The Commissioner applauded the existing cordial relationship between the state government and representatives of various media organizations in the state.
