Zamfara govt closes selected cattle markets over rustling

The government of Zamfara State has announced the immediate closure of some cattle markets (Kara) in five local government areas of the state.

A public announcement issued by the Commissioner of Information and Culture, Mannir Mu’azu Haidara, on Sunday, indicated that the affected cattle markets included Danjibga and Kunchin Kalgo in Tsafe Local Government, Bagega and Wuya cattle markets in Anka, Dangulbi and Dansadau in Maru, Dauran in Zurmi and Nasarawar Burkullu in Bukkuyim Local Government Areas, respectively.

According to the commissioner, the decision to temporarily close the cattle markets (Kara), was taken during the state security council meeting, held on Thursday 31st August 2023 at Council Chamber Gusau, was as a result of the nefarious activities of selling and loading of rustled cattles by suspected members of armed bandits.

With this development, the council members, however, called on security agencies and Directorate of Animal Health and Livestock Development to ensure strict compliance on the measures, the announcement added.

The council further assured the general public the relevant stakeholders commitment to monitoring and reviewing the progress with a view to restore peace in the affected cattle markets.
