Zamfara Assembly extends tenure of state’s LG Interim Administrators

By IBRAHIM KANOMA, Gusau

The Zamfara State House of Assembly, on Monay, deliberated upon and confirmed the extension of tenure for 14 Local Government Areas’ Interim Administrators in the state by another six months.

This followed the presentation of report by Special Committee led by Deputy Speaker Hon. Adamu Aliyu Gummi, which was earlier  mandated to screen the LG  Interim Administrators before their confirmation, according to a statement by Bello Madaro Kurya, Chief Press Secretary to the Zamfara State House of Assembly.

The DEFENDER reports that all the 14 council bosses appeared before the Committee during the screening exercise.

It could be recalled that on April 24, 2024, Governor Dauda Lawal sent a message through the Secretary to the State Government, Mallam Abubakar Nakwada, addressed to the Clerk of the House, Alhaji Mahmud Aliyu, seeking the State House of Assembly to confirm the Local Government Interim Administrators for another tenure, as required by the law.

That necessitated the House under the Speakership of Rt. Hon. Bi’yaminu Ismail Moriki, to invite all the Councils’ Interim Administrators for cross-examination to ensure justice and fairness in the confirmation process.

After an extensive deliberation, the Speaker announced that, with unanimous consent of the entire Honourable Members, the House had approved and confirmed the extension of the14 Local Government Interim Administrators for another six months as requested by Governor Dauda Lawal.

Speaker Moriki then charged all the Council bosses to justify the confidence reposed in them by ensuring good and quality leadership in their various Local Government Areas.
