ZAMFARA: 3 bandits killed, as police recovers AK-103-2, AK-47, other arms

The Zamfara State Police Command has killed three bandits and recovered AK-49 and AK-103-2 rifles as well as one pump action gun in Tsafe and Bakura Local Government Areas respective operations.

The newly posted Zamfara State Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Bunu, disclosed this during his maiden press briefing on his achievements in not less than a week of assuming duty as the state’s new Commissioner of Police.

According to our correspondent, at the press briefing held in the command’s conference hall in Gusau the state capital, CP Bunu explained details of the operations.

“On the 3rd day of May, 2023 at about 2:30 PM, a team of Police operatives attached to Anti-Violence Squad while on surveillance patrol along Gusau-Tsafe road at Gidan Giye village in Tsafe LGA intercepted bandits on three motorcycles each carrying three persons.

“On sighting the Police, the bandits engaged them in a gun duel which lasted for an hour,” he said.

According to him, due to superior fighting power, the Anti-Violence Squad neutralised two of the bandits and recovered one AK-49 rifle and one pump action gun while other bandits escaped with possible gunshots wounds.

Similarly, the police tactical operatives in the state also recovered one AK-103-2 rifle with one empty magazine.

While confirming the development, CP Mohammed Bunu explained that, “On the 4th day of May, 2023 at about 02:10 PM, Police Tactical Operatives received a distress call that two armed men suspected to be bandits attacked one Abdullahi Na’ibi of Yar-Dadi village via Rini District of Bakura Local Government Area of Zamfara State while on his way to Bakura town.

“On receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer (of the area) swiftly mobilized and led a striking force of the division, trailed the bandits and caught up with them at Yardadi village.

On sighting the police team, the bandits engaged them in gun duel but the gallant policemen, which retaliated, met the suspected criminals with superior firepower that overwhelmed them.

As a result of the exchange of fire, one of the bandits was neutralised while others escaped into the bush with gunshot wounds.

The CP said one AK-103-2 rifle with one empty magazine was  recovered.
