Both the All Progressive Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have elected their gubernatorial candidates in Zamfara State as they held their respective primaries in the state capital Gusau, on Thursday May 26, 2022.

Our Correspondent, who covered the primaries at their respective venues, said the APC elected incumbent Governor Bello Matawalle as the sole candidate due to the fact that

his only co-contestant, Abdulkadir Gajam, withdrew on personal ground, while the PDP, on the other hand, elected former Executive Director of First Bank and now a business tycoon, Dr. Dauda Lawal Dare, as its candidate for the 2023 gubernatorial election in the state.

PDP

On the part of PDP, Dauda Dare, who contested against three other contestants, scored 431 votes to clinch the governorship ticket. The other three PDP’s contestants are; Ibrahim Shehu, who scored 5 votes, Wadatau Madawaki, who scored 2 votes and Hafiz Usman, that went out of the contest with no vote, as announced by the electoral officer, Adamu Maina Waziri, who declared the results of the election.

Maina commended the maturity display by delegates and appeal to other contestants to support the winner for the overall victory of the party PDP at the polls.

Also while declaring Bello Matawalle as winner of the delegates electoral congress of the APC, the electoral officer, Babagana Banki, said the governor had gotten the endorsement of 733 delegates out of the 735 accredited.

He thanked the delegates for conducting a hitch-free delegates congress where incumbent Governor Bello Matawalle was returned unopposed.

Several party members, who spoke during the exercise, included former Governor AbdulAziz Abubakar Yari, and who stressed the need for unity among party supporters for the success of APC in the state and at all the Federal level.
