The Director of Information, Office of the Wife of Nigeria’s President, Mr. Suleiman Haruna, has said that his boss, Mrs Muhammadu Buhari, does not know any of the individuals involved in fraud case under investigation by Department of State Services (DSS).
Mrs Buhari was reacting to the current fraud suspects under DSS custody who allegedly stated that they were either her sister or associate, respectively, stating categorically that neither is Mariyatu her sister nor Amina Mohammed her associate and therefore not in a position to transact any business in her name or that of her office.
Names of very important, eminent world and Nigerian figures have over sometimes now been impersonated particularly on the Facebook social media with the perpetrator claiming they the profiles of the figures they posted on the walls thereby swindling unsuspecting members of the public, particularly those susceptible to being easily defrauded due to their own personal instinct of greed for improbable wealth.
But these fraudsters, whose activities have been on the rise since the coming of internet particularly social media in the late 1990s during the start of the ongoing Fourth Republic, for the first time have been under close monitor of now more proactive Nigerian security and intelligence thus being uncovered either some of them claiming to be customs officer, some claiming to be President or representative of him or others claiming to be related to a chief in the armed forces or a very important traditional ruler.
The fresh ones uncovered have told the DSS that they are either sister to the wife of the President or associate of her.
In a swift reaction, the wife of the President, through her a statement by her media aide, Haruna of which The DEFENDER was sent a copy on Wednesday said it was not true.
“Her Excellency, wife of the President of Nigeria, Mrs. Aisha Muhammadu Buhari, has been following events related to investigation of a fraud suspect by the Department of State Services (DSS), and wishes to dissociate herself from all the individuals involved in the stated fraud case.
“She wishes to state categorically that Mariyatu is NOT her SISTER and the so called Amina Mohammed is not and was NEVER her ASSOCIATE and is therefore not in a position to transact any business in her name or that of her office.
“She wishes to further state that she does not run businesses in her office, therefore whoever does business with anyone in her name will be doing so at his/her own risk.
“As for staff of her office, she wishes to state that anyone found to be engaged in fraudulent dealings, will face the full wrath of the law,” Suleiman Haruna said.
