Media sources reported from Paris, the capital of France, that tens of thousands of French people protested in the streets of the city demanding France quits the NATO over recession, sharp increase in the cost of living, energy crisis and issue of peace in the world.

The protests are held while the French Nobel literature winner, Annie Ernaux, and other several French figures urged protests against Macron.

Chanting, “Let’s get out of NATO,” the demonstrators took to the streets protesting against the involvement of President Emmanuel Macron in the United States of Americia-led anti-Russian stance that has led to hardship that people suffer, not only in France, but across the West.

Demanding that President Macron should resign, they criticised his government for supplying weapons to Ukraine.

The war in Ukraine has caused a sweeping energy crisis across Europe, meaning it is the everyday people and their back pockets suffering.

In France, petrol prices have soared to new highs, as many workers resort to strikes to send a message to the government.

Far right leader, Marine Le Pen, is clinging onto the anti-NATO sentiment among the French populace, promising her government will ease the burden of living.

A group of French intellectuals including Annie Ernaux urged people to join the protests planned by the left for next week, accusing President Emmanuel Macron of not doing enough to help the poor cope with high prices while some companies make windfall profits, according to Reuters.

“Emmanuel Macron is using inflation to widen the wealth gap, to boost capital income at the expense of the rest”, the group of 69 signatories, including writers, film directors and university teachers, said in a text published in the Journal Du Dimanche.
