By BASHIR ADEFAKA

Amidst insinuation in a section of the media that Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG)’s Enoch Adejare Adeboye has declared support for Israel in the ongoing bloodletting against humanity from the hands of Israel following surprise attack by Hamas in Gaza Strip, Nigeria’s Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) has told the world that situation in the Mediterranean part is not a war between Jewish and Muslims but a conflict between an oppressor and the oppressed.

This was coming as the General Overseer of the RCCG, Enoch Adeboye took side by backing Israel in the bloodletting saying that all members of RCCG worldwide stand with the side that, in most cases, has been fingered as the oppressor killing over 300 innocent Palestinians before the surprise attack on its forces by Hamas.

Pointing out that Palestinian people consist of both Muslims and Christian population, the Nigeria’s foremost Islamic organisation describes the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, which has for five days now led to pounding of Gaza Strip with close to 2,000 lives losing on both sides of the divide, as needless and avoidable.

Roaring from its National Secretariat in Kaduna, the Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) made the description in a statement it issued and copy of which was sent to The DEFENDER on Thursday.

According to the statement signed by Professor Khalid Abubakar Aliyu, Secretary General of the Jama’at, the latest development, sparing not even Al-Aqsa Mosque the third sanctified sites after Makkah and Madinah, is unfortunate.

“Qur’an 17, verse 1, expatiates more on the relevance of the mosque to the Muslims. Therefore, JNI extends its deepest condolences to the victims and families affected by the ongoing bloodletting, but needless conflict between Hamas and Israel.

“As an organization dedicated to promoting better understanding of Islam, peace, understanding, mutual trust, justice and upholding of international law, we firmly believe in the universal principle that truth always triumphs over falsehood, no matter how long it takes.

“And in order to put a stop to the ongoing pogrom, the protracted conflict in the Gaza Strip must come to an end for the sake of human global peace.”

Prophessor Aliyu, while describing Gaza as a small territory on the eastern coast of the Mediterranean, traced the history of the conflict to how it came under Egyptian administration after the 1948 Arab-Israeli war and was occupied by Israel during the 1967 six-day war.

“The roots of the conflict could be traced to infamous Balfour declaration and the Sykes-Picot agreement in the late 19th century, which paved way for the establishment of a racist Jewish state and mass expulsion of Arab Palestinians, which reached its climax after the end of the Second World War and the declaration of state of Israel in 1947.

“Freedom lovers and justice-seeking people of the world should know that a census conducted in 1916 in Palestine shows that the Jews were about 90,000, while the Palestinians were almost 700,000.

“But as a result of the partition of Palestine in 1948 by the United Nations (UN), tens of thousands Palestinians were expelled and replaced by illegal Jewish immigrants from the former Soviet Unions and other eastern European countries.”

He blamed the failure of the international community especially the UN and the Arab League for why the conflict has continued.

The Jama’atuNasrilIslamchief scribe expressed dismay that, “Successive Arab-Israeli wars from 1948, 1967 and 1973 had not helped in the liberation of the occupied territories only rather it unfortunately exacerbated the sufferings of the Palestinians and continuous land grabbing in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.

“Various international efforts, including peace talks and ceasefires, have been attempted, but a lasting resolution has remained elusive to the world. The conflict has continued unabated, fundamentally because of the failure of the international community especially the UN and the Arab League.”

Jama’atu Nasril Islam took a swipe on western leaders and their acolytes to change the true narratives through their ‘highly biased media’, describing it as rather unfortunate and a crime against humankind.

“Equally, the attempts no doubt point to complicity and diabolical role being played by the western world, in the ongoing conflict. Posterity will nevertheless account for the misdemeanor done to humanity, no matter how long it takes.

“Before the recent Hamas’ surprise attacks on occupation forces, over three hundred defenceless Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank since January 2023. This clearly debunks any futile attempts by the Israeli backers especially the United State of America to justify the bloodletting in the besieged Gaza Strip.

“As a result of this, Gaza is now faced with severe humanitarian challenges as a result of more than one and the half decades of suffocating blockade imposed by the Zionist’s occupiers of Palestine and their ally – Egypt which has equally maintained stricter inhumane restriction of flow of goods and people.”

From the standpoint of this, therefore, the JNI has for the sake of humanity joined other global voices of reason to call for an immediate ceasefire in the region to create a conducive atmosphere for dialogue and peaceful resolution.

“The continuous violence and loss of innocent lives serve only to escalate tensions and deepen the sufferings of the people. In this regard, the United States of America (US) as the most active role player on the Israel-Palestine conflict is called upon to exercise restraint, have a rethink on its unconditional support for the continued occupation of the Palestinian lands.

“The US should wake up from its slumber and recognize the reality of the unfolding multi-polar order and potential escalation of the ongoing conflict, to not only a regional conflict but a global war. The world should know that this is not a war between Jewish and Muslims but a conflict between an oppressor and the oppressed.

“Palestinian people consist of both Muslims and Christians, and they deserve the sympathy of all people who truly believes in the sanctity of human life and dignity.

“Furthermore, we implore the Ultra Right Wing Israeli government to respect the numerous resolutions put forth by the international community, which seek to end this crisis and establish a just and lasting peace. Particularly that a two-state solution for both conflict entities have been on the peace table and adherence to these resolutions is a crucial step towards the resolution of this long-standing conflict.

“Both parties must be willing to engage in meaningful dialogue (with no strings attached). International mediators, such as the US, UN, the European Union, and Arab states, can play a facilitating role (with utmost sincerity) in the peace process.

“It should however be noted that the status of Jerusalem, the fate of some unnecessary settlements, and the rights of Palestinian refugees are key issues that must be addressed in a negotiated settlement. In this regard, a freeze on Israeli settlement construction in the West Bank is very crucial as a confidence-building measure, to the peace process.

“More so, the JNI is very much concerned that the global peace is becoming more of a mirage than a reality, with the systemic growing number of global conflicts such as the Russia-Ukraine war, Sudan, Iraq, Libya, Syrian conflicts, to mention a few. It is thus pertinent to ask, if the UN is really united against global conflicts?

“We further call for investment in economic development and infrastructure in the Palestinian territories which can help improve living conditions and create stability. Moreover, addressing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and providing assistance to vulnerable populations is essential.

“In addition, continued international support and pressure on both parties to adhere to negotiated agreements and the principles of international law are very fundamental.

“In conclusion, JNI appeals to all supporters and backers of Israeli occupation forces to prioritise the value of human lives and take concrete steps towards ending the violence in the Gaza Strip. It is our hope that through genuine dialogue, diplomacy and international law, as well as commitment to justice, the people of this region can finally experience the peace and security they deserve in-sha’Allah,” the Jama’atu Nasril Islam Nigeria said.
