Just as it achieved a remarkable feat nipping the kidnap of Lagos State Fire Service Director, Mr. Rasak Musibau, and six others in the bud with victims’ safe release and two of the culprits arrested, the Lagos State Police Command Thursday says it has again moved a step further in the direction of cultism arresting 33 members.

In a statement he issued in Ikeja obtained by The DEFENDER via WhatsApp, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Bala Elkana, said the suspected criminals he described as cultists and murderers, armed with dangerous weapons and fighting as rival groups, were arrested at Alakara, Mushin, Onipanu and Shomolu areas of the Centre of Excellence.

He named two innocent victims of the sad event, whose lives were cut short in the crossfire that ensued between the groups.

Elkana said: “On10/04/19 at about 1130HRS, Onipanu Police Station received a distress call that members of rival cult groups from Alakara, Mushin and Onipanu, Shomolu, armed with dangerous weapons and engaged themselves in a fierce supremacy fight at Fadeyi, Onipanu, along Ikorodu road.

“During the scuffle, one Tobi Kuti ‘m’, suspected to be one of the hoodlums and one Samuel Geofrey ‘m’ of DTD Services, Apapa who was caught up in the web, were killed by the hoodlums.

“Patrol teams and Operatives of Tactical Units were promptly deployed to the scene. The teams swiftly contained the situation and restored normalcy to the area. Thirty three suspects were arrested in connection with the incident and two locally made short guns with ten live cartridges and other dangerous weapons such as cutlasses, knives, etc were recovered.

“The Command has deployed more resources to the affected areas for manhunt of other fleeing members of the gangs. Investigation is ongoing.

“CP Zubairu Muazu mni called on Parents to monitor the activities of their children especially those who engage themselves in cult activities and gangsterism, as the Command is duty bound to deal decisively with criminal elements in line with the law and protect the lives of the good people of Lagos State,” the Police Spokesman said in the statement.
