WAKE UP: The desperation to move Nnamdi Kanu to prison is suspicious
By BASHIR ADEFAKA
“Considering ongoing occurrences of prison breaks, IPOB must have an ulterior motive in pushing for their client’s transfer to a correctional facility. The grand plan must surely be to attack whichever facility he gets transferred to in order to release him, government must resist this!”
With the spate of attacks on correctional facilities across the country, it is extremely intriguing, the desperation by Nnamdi Kanu’s legal team to move him to a correctional facility by hook or crook.
Despite court’s ruling that the IPOB leader be remanded in the custody of the Department of State Services, his lawyers have remained adamant, resorting to all manner of schemes and idiosyncrasies.
First came the allegation that his team was being denied access to see him, of which the court clarified in its ruling that visits to Kanu must be regimented. Then came the false alarm on deterioration of his health and decline of his request for an independent medical examination. This was debunked by Senator Orji Kalu who confirmed Kanu was in good health after his visit to the IPOB leader.
After that narrative failed woefully, they began spreading propaganda about him being tortured and manhandled of which the DSS spokesman in December 2021 debunked, stating categorically that the IPOB leader enjoys luxury treatment in their facility. In fact, to corroborate this, one of Sowore’s disciple who was detained by the security agency over civil disobedience has previously revealed that Kanu often shares his Pizza with them. This buttresses the fact that in Custody, the IPOB leader indeed chooses meals of his choice.
So far, all the baseless claims by his lawyer have been factually debunked by the DSS as well as prominent individuals and men of integrity who have visited him in custody. It therefore is suspicious, and begs to question why his legal team are bent on transferring him to Kuje Prison.
On the other hand, IPOB has resorted to all sorts, sit-at-home orders, brazen attack on police officers and government buildings, sponsorship of offensive articles against government, protests and so many other tactics aimed at cheaply blackmailing authorities into releasing their demi-god, Nnamdi Kanu.
Laughably and to their chagrin, these foolhardy schemes have remained futile. It was estimated in September 2021 that the South East had lost N50 billion to the sit-at-home order while every other sector including education bears the brunt. Violent attacks on citizens and security operatives have continued to destabilise the region with fears of a replication of the security situation in the North East.
Considering ongoing occurrences of prison breaks, IPOB must have an ulterior motive in pushing for their client’s transfer to a correctional facility. The grand plan must surely be to attack whichever facility he gets transferred to in order to release him, government must resist this!
Nnamdi Kanu is traitor and hater of peaceful co-existence. No doubt, the birth of IPOB’s military arm, signalled an era of restlessness for the South East under Nnamdi Kanu’s command and he has continued to churn out negative narratives to mislead and misguide unsuspecting Nigerians against government.
The Nigerian authorities must understand that releasing KANU or granting him bail will translate into more instability of the region and Nigeria at large. Every attempt to transfer him out of DSS facility or grant him bail must be strongly resisted in the interest of the country’s peace.
