The United States totally imposed its will on Europe and will never let it build its own architecture of security, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in an interview with France’s TF1 television channel.

Lavrov recalled that after French President Emmanuel Macron’s visit to Moscow, Russian President Vladimir Putin said publicly that Moscow was ready to discuss agreements on security guarantees to Ukraine, Russia and all European nations, “given these guarantees are not linked with the expansion of the North Atlantic Alliance.”

“President Macron has also repeatedly said that Europe needs a new architecture of security, but the United States doesn’t allow to do anything. And will never do. The United States has totally imposed its will on Europe,” he said.

At the same time, he noted France’s efforts to promote the concept of strategic autonomy. “President Macron has been sticking to this position. But no enthusiasm on this matter is observed in any other European state. Even the Germans say that Germany’s, Europe’s security is impossible without NATO,” he added.
