“Also, sections of the media have been briefed to implement the strategy through sponsored articles, commentaries and features to malign the DG, his family and select officials of the Service.”

Just as plots, allegedly, by Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefiele, to use some civil society groups against leadership of the Department of State Services (DSS) are being nipped in the bud, another such plots – this time – by some “disgruntled politicians” within and outside of government have been uncovered, our investigations revealed.

This revelation has been further strengthened by a statement issued from headquarters of the agency that is custodian of nation’s secret, the DSS, signed by its Public Relations Officer (PRO), Dr. Peter Afunanya, dated January 10, 2023 and copy of which was sent to The DEFENDER on Tuesday.

This nation’s only multi-lingual newspaper reports that tone of the statement of the Department of State Services (DSS) came with an indication that such plans exist, have been uncovered and perpetrators are now under close monitoring.

The DSS, exposing the reason for the unpatriotic efforts of the elements, said there were “plans by some politicians and disgruntled elements within and outside the government to sponsor smear campaigns against the DGSS, Yusuf Magaji Bichi CFR, fwc and his key officials over the Service’s uncompromising stance on some critical governance and policy issues.”

It said, “Those behind the plot have engaged Civil Society and Non-Governmental Organisations to not only sustain but stage further rallies, road-shows and press conferences and use the occasions to discredit Bichi.”

It was further revealed in the statement that even sections of Nigerian press are not left out of the Organised tools to be deployed by the elements who, apparently, are out to ensure that frantic efforts to free the country from things that took the state to where it finds itself.

“Also, sections of the media have been briefed to implement the strategy through sponsored articles, commentaries and features to malign the DG, his family and select officials of the Service.

“The Service is monitoring developments and will allow the plotters to either exhaust themselves or rescind the plan of action. Otherwise, no amount of intimidation, harassment and blackmail will deter it from discharging its duties,” it reiterated commitment to patriotism.

It added, however, that it would not idly watch a group of dissatisfied gang to undermine the Service and its highly dedicated Leadership and Management.

“The DSS, therefore, wishes to inform the public to be wary of these tendencies and ignore the antics of dark forces out to impugn the character of the DG.

“It restates its unalloyed support to the President on his resolve to continue to confront head-on, threats to national security as well as create the enabling environment necessary for the 2023 general elections to hold,” the DSS said in the Peter Afunanya’s statement.

The Nigeria’s DSS has continued to receive accolades for its extraordinary performance to the global standard under the current DG. Among such accolades was the award the DG, Alhaji Yusuf Magaji Bichi, received from the International Security Organisation (ISO-SEC), through the Service’s Spokesman Dr. Peter Afunanya, during the ISO-SEC in Zurich, Switzerland.
