Troops rescue 48 kidnap victims after terrorist attack in Zamfara

“On arrival at the scene, the troops immediately engaged the terrorists in a fierce firefight, forcing them to abandon the kidnapped victims and flee into the surrounding bush,” the statement said.
Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA (JTF NW OPFY), have rescued 48 kidnapped victims following a swift response to a terrorist attack on Magami village in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The attack reportedly occurred in the early hours of Sunday, July 26, 2026, when a large group of terrorists, said to be riding on about 40 motorcycles, invaded the community and began rounding up residents with the intention of taking them into the bush.
According to a statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force (North West), Operation FANSAN YAMMA, troops of Sector 2 received a distress call about the attack and immediately mobilised to the affected community.
The statement said that while one group of terrorists rounded up the residents, another group remained at the outskirts of the village with the motorcycles.
“On arrival at the scene, the troops immediately engaged the terrorists in a fierce firefight, forcing them to abandon the kidnapped victims and flee into the surrounding bush,” the statement said.
The military intervention resulted in the successful rescue of all 48 civilians who had been abducted by the terrorists.
However, the attack claimed the life of one civilian, while two others sustained gunshot injuries. The injured victims were evacuated to the General Hospital in Kaura Namoda, where they are currently receiving medical treatment.
Following the successful rescue operation, the troops conducted aggressive patrols across the general area to dominate the terrain and prevent the terrorists from regrouping or launching further attacks.
The Theatre Command commended the troops for their gallantry and professionalism, while reaffirming its commitment to protecting the lives and property of residents across the North-West.
The Command also urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies, stressing that such cooperation remains crucial to sustaining ongoing efforts to rid the region of terrorist elements.
