“WHO commended Nigeria for our prompt reaction so far and ready to assist Nigeria the way they are assisting the rest of the world to extinguished the virus,” Durodolu said in response to PDP.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has blamed the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari for what it calls avoidable entrance of the Coronavirus into the country.

It said on Friday that negligence and laid back attitude to governance and the welfare of Nigerians led to why the deadly disease gained access into the country.

The opposition party said it was evident that the Buhari Presidency, not being alive to its responsibilities, took no concrete steps to hedge the nation against the virus, leading to the current scary situation.

The PDP spoke in a statement released by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr Kola Olgbodiyan, who noted that a responsive and proactive government would have mobilized effective surveillance and screening measures to ward off the menace, particularly at our entry points, but the incompetent, insensitive and indifferent Buhari administration, was more interested in propaganda and unnecessary showboating with false performance claims.

The party also stated that the Buhari administration had done nothing to assist Nigerian citizens stranded in China despite their pleas.

The statement reads in part: “Nigerians should directly hold the Buhari Presidency responsible should any national calamity arose from COVID-19 in addition to the economic and security challenges his administration had caused our nation”.

“Due to the negligence and incompetence of the Buhari administration, Nigerians can no longer move freely across their country for fear of insurgents, bandits, kidnappers and now coronavirus.

“This latest failure further validates widespread calls for it to step aside for more competent hands to manage the affairs of our country”.

“The PDP, therefore, calls on Nigerians not to despair but stir up the Nigerian resilient spirit for an urgent, multi-sectoral concerted effort by agencies, groups, corporate entities and public-spirited individuals to immediately curb the disease before it spreads, particularly given the prevalent security, economic and humanitarian challenges in the country”.

The party called on the Federal Government to end its cosmetic attitude and immediately adopt the proactive strategy used by the PDP administration to promptly contain the Ebola Virus disease in 2014.

The PDP also advised Nigerians to be very vigilant and follow intervention directives to ensure that the disease does not spread in the country.

The party urged the ministry of health to continue to be open and not allow propaganda, speculations and misinformation in the handling of this.

Nigerians react

In the meantime, Nigerians are complaining that PDP has continued to take the nation and its good, great people by failing to be the true opposition it should be.

President Buhari.

Two of them are Ugo Egbujo whose comment centered in what he called “disaster called PDP” and Kunle Durodolu.

Ugo Egbujo on the “disaster called PDP” said: “We should mourn the degeneration of the PDP.  Okay the party was never known for honesty. But it had a little sense. And it was never sadistic on an industrial scale.

“The PDP is now a disgruntled pyromaniac. The PDP has said we should hold Buhari responsible for the entrance of Corona Virus into the country.

“The PDP thinks that the tabloid politics it played with herdsmen violence can work with Corona Virus.

“The problem the PDP has is that it is cheapening itself before the same international community it likes to run to and shed crocodile tears.

“The PDP heard WHO say Corona Virus can be transmitted by people without symptoms. The PDP saw how efficiently the Italian was picked up and isolated.

“Rather than commend the government the PDP is announcing itself an illiterate party. I hope the UN and UK are watching and listening.

“The PDP under Secondus has become one fat mischievous village elder whom since his farm got burnt wishes an earthquake, a plague, a drought on the entire village.

“A change of name wont help the PDP. The country needs another party,” Egbujo said.

In his reaction titled “PDP blames Buhari for coronavirus in Nigeria”, Kunle Durodolu said:

“At this point i have come to the conclusion that we don’t have opposition in Nigeria but mad people, opposition is not stupidity, it is not wishing your country evil, it is not blame pushing at times like this. Conona virus is an epidemic that broke out outside Nigeria. It has entered into over 55 countries among which Nigeria is one of the least sophisticated countries.

“WHO commended Nigeria for our prompt reaction so far and ready to assist Nigeria the way they are assisting the rest of the world to extinguished the virus.

“Corona virus doesn’t discrimate weather you are Hausa, Ibo or Yoruba, neither doest it prefer a Fulani people to other people. This virus doesn’t care if you are Christian or Muslim.

“But for the major opposition party in Nigeria to go blame trading on matters like this is wicked and unacceptable.
Only a mad fellow will hope to profit from the misfortune of his country.”

Abass Adetunji simply said “I thought it was fake news” that PDP blamed President Buhari over the disease entering Nigeria.
