In an apparent move to encourage capacity building in teaching quality education delivery service in his North East state, Governor of Taraba State, Mr. Agbu Kefas, has approved a scattered allowance of N75,000 for each member of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) posted to schools in the state.

Agbu Kefas, Governor of Taraba State.

The breakdown shows that N50,000 of the N75,000 goes to the corper as medical allowance for the whole of the service year, while N25,000 goes to him or her as accommodation allowance per term.

The DEFENDER’s calculations shows that where N50,000 is paid as a one-time allowance for the whole service year of three terms, the N25,000 accommodation allowance per term means each corper gets N75,000 accommodation for the whole service year of three terms totaling N125,000 for the service year to each corper teacher in state schools.

The Taraba State Commissioner for Information and Re-orientation, Hajia Zainab Usman, in a statement on Sunday, disclosed that Governor Kefas also approved N10,000 as monthly stipend to the corper-teacher.

Hajia Usman noted that the measures are in response to the education situation in the state.

Additionally, outstanding corps members serving in the state’s schools will be offered automatic employment opportunities.

The government is also introducing measures to ensure transparency in the enrollment and teaching process.

Also uniforms, shoes, socks, and books will be available to support students in their pursuit of education, by January 2024.

Exceptional students will also be eligible for sponsorship and scholarships.
