Update on Godwin Emefiele is that, after his suspension by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday, he was arrested same day by the Department of State Services (DSS).
In an earlier report, had said that Emefiele was suspended “sequel to the ongoing investigation of his office and the planned reforms in the financial sector of the economy” according to a release by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume.
Tinubu also appointed Mr Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi as the acting Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
Recall that the DSS made unsuccessful attempt to arrest Emefiele early this year.
It had since then intensified its investigations in order to arrest and prosecute Emefiele, on allegations of terrorism financing and fraud.
The DEFENDER’s message to DSS to confirm the arrest was, however, yet to be responded to as at the time of filing this report.
