The Sultan of Sokoto and President General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has declared Thursday May 9, 2024 as the first day of Dhul Qa’adah 1445 AH.
This was according to a short note circulated, credited to Mallam Yahaya Muhammad Boyi, Sarkin Malamin Sokoto, on behalf of the Sultanate Council Sokoto Moon Sighting Committee and copy of which was sent to The DEFENDER.
The DEFENDER reports that Dhul-Qa’dah is 11th month of Islamic calendar year coming before Dhul-Hijjah, the month of Hajj that is 12th lunar month of the year.
By implication, Eid-Adha, the bigger of the two major Islamic festivals wherein animal sacrifice is made by Muslim faithful, is 42 days from today (Dhul-Qadah 1) except the crescent of Dhul-Hijjah is not sighted by sunset after the 29th night of Dhul-Qadah.
However, this is the only of the two festival that is determined by Saudi Arabian authorities, vested with the responsibility of declaring the day of Arafat that is main rites of Hajj exercise, performed by Muslims who gather in visit the Holy Land from all over the world.
Eid-Adha is celebrated day after the day of Arafat.
Traditionally, Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar’s prayers have always been that Allah would strengthen the Ummah of Muslims he leads in Nigeria, the Muslim World and for the world of man to be in peace.
