Hamzat is going to pick Seyi Tinubu as his running mate. It’s been agreed. He’s going to pick Seyi as his running mate. Of course, APC will win the election. So Hamzat will become the governor with Seyi as the deputy governor. Six months or less into that administration, Hamzat will resign and say he’s resigning on health ground or whatever reason. It is possible the resignation letter has already been written and signed as we speak.

Something serious is brewing in the Lagos political scene, but many people are not paying attention.

While you were busy arguing about ADC, APC, NDC, Atiku, Peter Obi, Kwankwaso, Tinubu, and the presidency, a major coup took place in Lagos, but you were all distracted.

You will recall that some few months back, there were some heavyweights that were linked to the position of the Lagos State governor in the forthcoming election.

Names like Femi Gbajabiamila, names like Ambode, Seyi Tinubu, and co. They were fighting already. The lobbying was intense.

But just last week, all of a sudden and from nowhere, a certain Kadri Obafemi Hamzat was presented to the public as the APC annointed governorship candidate for the 2027 election.

The president endorsed him.

The first lady endorsed him.

The incumbent governor endorsed him.

And immediately that endorsement was done, everywhere went silent. Nobody said any other thing. All the other interest parties went mute. It is settled. The kingmakers, (sorry, the kingmaker) has spoken, and that is final.

But you don’t understand what is going on.

That was not a mere endorsement.

That was a strategy.

Strategy for something to come, something you would never expect.

Now, come with me.

In case you don’t know. Like I said, one of the frontline candidates for that position was Seyi Tinubu.

Tinubu believe that after singlehandedly making three people governors after himself, that it is now the turn of his own son.

But on a second thought, the strategist knew that if he pushed Seyi as the governorship candidate directly, there might be some resistance somewhere.

He didn’t want what happened to Owelle Rochas Okorocha in Imo State to happen to him.

Rochas made a mistake in 2019, a political mistake, that cost him his preferred candidate to succeed him. He wanted his in-law, a man who married his daughter, Uche Nwosu, to become the next governor after him. And he did everything possible to make it happen.

But the political elites in Imo State felt insulted. “You just finished serving eight years, and you want your son-in-law to take over from you.” So, everybody were against him and they fought him.

All the forces in Imo State were against that happening.

A simple strategy that this particular Lagos State strategist is about to use could have helped Rochas achieve what he wanted.

He should have picked one son of a nobody (he can control) from Owerri Zone as his endorsed candidate, and asked Uche Nwosu, which is from Olru Zone, to be his deputy.

If he had done that, he would have won the heart of many and even received widespread applause from everybody, because, you know, people would have been like, “imagine him giving a chance to a nobody.” And because the person is from Owerri Zone, all the people from Owerri Zone who already believed it was their turn would have thrown their weight behind him.

But he miscalculated, and that was why he lost that chance.

Now let me take you back to Lagos State. If Seyi is being fronted to run for governor, many people will fight it, including APC stakeholders. So, the strategist knew that and decided to ask them to front Hamzat.

Who is Hamzat by the way?

What is his political pedigree? He cannot stand people like Ambode, Gbajabiamila, Seyi, and co.

But let me tell you what the game is.

I don’t have any evidence for this, but this is my prediction for Lagos State in 2027. And you can save this post and come back to it after the election.

He has collected his own share of the national cake.

He will take the whole of his family and relocate out of the country.

And what does the constitution say?

The constitution says that if the governor resigns, the deputy governor becomes the governor. So he will automatically become the governor of Lagos State for the next eight years.

Quietly.

Without noise.

Without struggles.

Without any resistance.

Just by pure strategy.

That is the game. But you may not know it. In fact, you are not supposed to know it.

This is only a prediction.
