Shiites kill Police Deputy Commissioner, Channels Reporter, in violent protest in Abuja

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in charge of Operations at FCT Command, Alhaji Usman Umar, has been killed by Shi’ite members of Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), who protested in Abuja on Monday.

Shiite members stoning police vehicle trying to quell the situation while their attacks continued Monday.

The latest killing is highest-profile victim of the group resulting from shooting prey by the violent Shiite group which claims to be protesting the continued detainment of their Leader, Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky.

Sources disclosed that DCP Umar was killed by the protesters while trying to prevent the hostile action of destruction of property at the axis of the Federal Secretariat and Three Arms Zone.

Consequent of the violence, security was beefed up at the Force Headquarters to prevent reprisal attacks over the arrest of scores of the protesters who took part in the violent attacks.

Also killed by the Shiite members was a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member reporting for Channels TV, who was hit by a stray bullet, during the protest.

Many more were said to have been injured during the unfortunate incident.

The reporter, Precious Owolabi, was reportedly rushed to the National Hospital, Garki, where he later died on Monday evening.

The protest, which started from NITEL Junction at Wuse 2, was aimed at forcing the Federal Government to free their leader, Ibraheem El-Zakzaky, who has been in detention since December 2015.
