Former Kaduna State Senator, Shehu Sani’s comment on Nigerian governors and responsibility for security of their respective states was brought to the for in a post early Friday by an Ibadan based patriot, Kunle Durodolu.

Senator Sani, in one of his latest tweets, said: “The Governors claimed that they don’t have the influence or control over the Police to enforce or ensure security, but you know that is not true during elections.”

Corroborating the notable critic, Kunle Durodolu, an unapologetic fighter against ethnic profiling in the amalgamated Nigeria, exposed how the insecurity in Nigeria is largely caused or heightened by lack of dutifulness on the part of the state governors except few.

He said, “Anytime they want to demolish houses of their political opponents they have more than enough fully armed security personnel to help them do the dirty job. Our Governors are powerful but lack visions for purposeful leadership.”

Replying to Sani’s tweet on his Twitter hand, one Fauziyya @BFauzzy tried to defend the governors when she said, “technically they don’t give orders to the police. its easier to bribe police to harras unarmed citizens during elections than it is to order them to go and face armed bandits.”

But she was quickly replied by Etukudo Emmanuel @Etuks09 who said, “I think they should also bribe the police too if they actually want or news security for their states.”

Funsho Mustapha @FUNSHOMUSTAPHA1 also replied, “What is the monthly security votes in millions meant for?” Another person in his own tweet wanted to know who the governors are fooling.

Replying to Kunle Durodolu’s comment, Clement Betuku said: “Shehu Sani has said the obvious. Nigerians Governors are selfish and self centred. They lacked vision and sensibility. Many of the Nigerians governors hasn’t add value to their States. They cannot provide farm settlements, single industry, pipe bone water, accessible roads for the citizens. They still allowed the people they governed to lives a life of eighteen countries. With all the allocation the governors received from Buhari every month they have nothing to offer.”

Falade Olurotimi said: “This is the hypocrisy we are seeing about these Governors , Which is quite unfortunate.”

Abubakar Ahmadu said: “The plain truth! Governors are part of our problems in large degree. They know how to mobilise Federal security personnels for their private interest. Unfortunately, we drag FG to account for cheap insecurity mishap that would ordinarily be tackled by Governors. I wish we could task our Governors in our respective States to do the needful. Our wits on social media is predominantly on FG! ”

Adebayo Adetule said: “May God Continues to Bless You Sir.This has been my Point I think I posted similar things like this yesterday. They rule like an Emperor. They don’t take Sh*t from anybody. Many citizens don’t even know the name of their State Governors but know the full name of Buhari.”

Ganiyu Garba said to another: “Adeleke Oluwole John u see what we just talked about”.

Yinka Popoola said: “They don’t control security but collect security vote.”

On Thursday, a Federal Government delegation, led by Minister of Information and Culture to Niger State over abduction of some staff and students of a government school in the state, noted that before Federal Government intervention the state governor, Abubakar Sani Bello, had already swung into action and was doing it well.

The DEFENDER reports that in Kaduna State, like Niger, the security situation there has been handled and tackled headlong by Governor Nasir el-Rufai making little or not at all the usual noise about President Muhammadu Buhari over security in the state.

Sokoto, which unarguably is the most peaceful state in Nigeria, had got its own share if the security challenge in recent past. Instead of cry about Abuja, Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal raced to the challenge and created a nezzle with which the state worked with the Federal Government and the Nigerian Army under Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai (Rtd) during his time, and the state, like others in the North and other parts where the governors took security as must-do, enjoys relative peace.

A particular source (name withheld) said: “Recall Arepo, Ikorodu and Igando pipeline vandalism, kidnappings, rapings and killings by vandals and militants in Lagos/Ogun Axis of the South West. Our media nearly brought down the sky of the country on all of us saying President Buhari’s failure caused the insecurity in that axis.

“Also recall the insecurity perpetrated by Tompolo and Asari Dokubo in the South South region of Niger Delta area. Despite existence of all the state governors, Federal allocations, security votes, constituency funds collected by by all the lawmakers Federal and states, derivations, royalty, local content and even the several trillions naira funds released so far for making a Dubai out of the Niger Delta through the NDDC, the militants of the Niger Delta perpetrated all the economic terrorisms destroying the oil installations running the country from over daily production of over 2.1 million barrel per day down to about 800,000 barrel per day thus making Nigeria running into recession. Even governors of those states joined others leaders of the area in blaming President Buhari for the insecurity although, when the President sent soldiers to stop the economic terrorisms, some lawyers more from South West and the East, claiming human rights of militants to fight the Federal Government for impoverishing them ownners of oil of Nigeria, whipped ethnic sentiments.

“Don’t forget that when we went and returned, the several trillions of NDDC was squandered not by Federal Government but disappeared under the watch of governors and other politicians of the Niger Delta Area.

“In the South East, the same. The level of hatred for the Federal Government particularly under a Fulani President becloud them that they don’t even see how they are themselves the makers of the insecurity they cry against Federal Government for despite that they have governors who are supposed to be in charge of their security and development. This failure of governors and other political leaders in the East gave Nnamdi Kanu the impetus to use the region as hate speech and fake news headquarters in Nigeria using his Radio Biafra to advance the course and now was watched to successfully establish the Eastern Nigeria Security Network killing security agents and people of other tribe. That is side-by-side with Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) as proscribed terrorist organisation.

“In the South West, the governors were made to believe that FULANI people had taken over their states’ bushes kidnapping their people, raping their girls and doing all the killings. Up till today, Sunday Igboho still goes around with his fake news of Fulani being the kidnappers of Chief Dennis Abuda killed in Benin on his return to his base in the United States even after suspected arrested by Edo Police are shown in video not to be Fulani. But, in order to be seen as working, the governors came together and formed the South West Security Network codenamed ‘Amotekun’ which has been accused of setting out to wage war against the Fulani herdsnen in the name of fighting killer herdsmen. Kidnappers arrested so far in Oyo, Edo, Ekiti and Ondo have shown how those perpetrating killings and other criminals in those bushes cut across the tribes; Yoruba, Fulani and Igbo. Especially all the six kidnappers arrested recently in Abuja, all Igbo. But we must not trace the ethnic and religious background of those criminals,” he said.

In ending his narratives he said, “What have they been doing with the security votes they collect on monthly basis if they will not stop to display their shameful unadmitted failure on security of their people? The truth is, some of these governors compromise the security of their people by handing over government they swore to lead into the hands of their political thugs. What you have in the end is the type of insecurity we have. That was how it started in Borno. That is how Lagos is more of thug-governed state that Federal Government needed to to move in soldiers to end the Arepo, Ikorodu, Igando terrorisms about two years ago in Ogun and Lagos states,” he said.

He also corroborated Shehu Dani and Durodolu saying, “You governors cannot claim to have no control of security men when you fail in your duty to ensure security and safety of your people whereas, you have the control of the same security men in perpetrating your election malpractices and the rest.”
