The Sultan of Sokoto and President General Nigeria of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has directed Muslims in the country to look out for the new moon of Sha’aban 1443AH from Thursday.

Sha’aban is the eighth month in the Islamic calendar, which comes before the Holy Month, the ninth month of Ramadan where fasting is obligatory for healthy and mentally sound believing Muslims.

The Sultan gave the directive in a statement signed by Prof. Sambo Junaidu, Chairman, Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Sultanate Council, Sokoto, and issued to newsmen on Wednesday.

“This is to inform the Muslim Ummah that Thursday March 3, 2022, which is equivalent to 29th day of Rajab 1443AH shall be the day to look out for the new moon of Sha’aban 1443AH.

“Muslim are, therefore, requested to start looking for the new moon on Thursday and report its sighting to the nearest district or village head for onward communication to the Sultan,’’ he said.

Abubakar further prayed Allah to assist the Muslim Ummah in the discharge of their religious duties.
