The Borno State Police Command has announced the death of its Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Abubakar A. Balteh, following a fatal road accident.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Nahum Daso, confirmed that Balteh died on February 21, 2026, as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.
“The Borno State Police Command regrets the passing of ACP Abubakar A. Balteh, who passed away today, February 21, 2026, in a fatal vehicle accident,” the statement read.
According to Daso, the late officer served diligently as the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the SCID until his demise.
The Command expressed its condolences over the loss and stated that details concerning burial arrangements and other related matters would be communicated in due course.
“May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him eternal rest,” Daso added.
Balteh’s death comes just months after the Command announced the passing of its Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the SCID, Ahmed Ibn Umar, who died in November 2025 after a prolonged illness.
