This was announced by a senior official in the state’s corridor of power via X social media network.

“All is set for the presentation of appointment letter to His Highness the Emir of Kano, Malam Muhammadu Sanusi II CO,” Tiwita, a senior specialist assistant to the governor on digital, wrote.

It was learned that Sanusi arrived in Kano late Thursday without much ceremony.

Characteristic of him, he is expected to lead the Jumu’at (Friday) prayers at the Kano Central Mosque located at the palace in Kofar Kudu in the Kano City today.

The DEFENDER had reported how Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf on Thursday officially approved the reappointment of the former Central Bank Governor as the Emir of Kano after he assented to a newly passed bill that abrogated four emirates created in addition to the Emir of Kano.

The emirates were created under a controversial law in 2019 by the administration of former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.

“I have approved the reappointment of Khalipha Muhammadu Sanusi II as the emir of Kano,” the Governor was quoted by his aide.

The governor also issued a 48-hour notice to all the deposed Emirs to vacate their palaces.

Recall the State House of Assembly passed a bill dissolving the establishment of the additional emirates.

However, a Federal High Court sitting in Kano State has allegedly barred the Kano State Government from enforcing the Kano State Emirate Council Repeal Law.

Justice Mohammed Liman granted the order in an Exparte application in Suit No FHC/KN/CS/182/2024 brought by Alhaji Aminu Babba Dan Agundi, the Sarkin Dawaki Babba of the Kano Emirate as plaintiff against the Kano State Government; Kano State House of Assembly; Speaker, Kano State House of Assembly; Attorney General of Kano State; Commissioner of Police, Kano State; Inspector General of Police; Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and the Department of State Services (DSS) as the 1st – 8th defendants.

Echoes from the Past

The DEFENDER recalls that on May 14, 2019, five years ago, All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman, Mr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, who is believed to be behind today’s attempt to use Federal High Court as vehicle to drive his wish for the stoppage of the 16th Emir of Kano, showed disrespect for the court as sitting governor in his time when he ignored court order stopping him from splitting the historic Emirate into five.

Ganduje ignored the court and went ahead to appoint four new Emirs and still presented their staff of office while sustain8ng what many called his politically multivated sack of Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II as 14th Emir of Kano.
