President Buhari to visit Borno on Thursday
President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, will pay a one-day working visit to Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, on Thursday 17 June 2021 to assess the security situation in the state and the North East geopolitical zone, generally.
According to the Presidency, the visit will afford President Buhari the opportunity to do a first-hand and on-the-spot assessment of how successful the efforts of his administration to restore peace and stability to the state and the region have been.
During the visit, the President will address troops and visit wounded soldiers recuperating in a health facility in Maiduguri.
The visit, according to Government House sources in Maiduguri, will also enable the President to commission a number of infrastructural projects completed by the Babagana Zulum administration.
Projects expected to be commissioned by the President include educational and health facilities, and housing estates.
Borno State has been under Boko Haram attacks since 2009, six years before the coming to office of President Muhammadu Buhari, leading to the occupation of 18 Local Government Areas in the state, and 3 in Yobe State.
Upon his coming on board, the Buhari administration, however, liberated all the occupied territories, and has geared up efforts to completely uproot the insurgents to restore normalcy in the North East region.
