The Buhari Media Organization (BMO) has stated that President Buhari is serious and passionate about reforming the Nigeria Police and that the dissolution of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad was one step in that direction, with more to come.

The group in a statement signed by its Chairman, Mr. Niyi Akinsiju, and its Secretary, Cassidy Madueke, noted that the President, a man who has listening ears and would not put the lives of Nigerians at risk, had ordered the Inspector General of Police to dissolve the Special Anti-Robbery Unit which had been accused of several extra-judicial infractions and human rights abuses.

“We want to assure Nigerians that President Buhari is serious and keen about reforming the Nigeria Police and ensuring that it serves to protect the lives of all Nigerians, and not endanger their lives.

“We also want to appeal to the protesters to exercise patience with the President as these reforms are birthed. They are not going to be achieved overnight. The institution of the Police is as old as the nation, and to achieve holistic reforms to it would neither be a one-day task or an easy one.

“With the political will, the seriousness and urgency that the President has shown, we can be assured that these reforms would see the light of the day, no matter how long it takes.”

The group also stated that while these reforms are ongoing, the government had in no way backed down to allow room for criminals to take over the space.

It stated: “while better relations are being achieved between the citizens and the police, these reforms would in fact lead to more clampdowns on criminals, that would ensure that Nigeria is made a safer country for its citizens.”
