President Muhammadu Buhari may have backed the decision by All Progressives Governors of Northern Nigeria that Presidency 2023 should go to the South.

This was coming as the President had a dinner with APC presidential aspirants at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa Saturday night.

Although details of the meeting were not immediately available as at the time of filing this report, governors APC governors had earlier same Saturday taken the decision asking any Northern aspirant on the platform of the party to step down and urged President Buhari to consider a Nigerian Southern extractions to succeed him.

The decisions of both the governors now backed by the President were coming barely seven days after an article published by The DEFENDER said some personalities of Hausa-Fulani community of Northern Nigeria had said they favoured that Presidency should go to South in 2023.

The article also advised President Buhari that while it is okay for him to have his candidate known to him alone, that candidate must not come from the North.

The article, contained in a column named WAKE UP, continued by appealing to President Muhammadu Buhari who is believed to owe the key to his own successor to ensure that the candidate he will pick does not come from the North.

“There is no candidate picked from South West, like Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Dr. Kayode Fayemi, who is not well fitted into the position to rule Nigeria. Although the candidate of choice remains with President Muhammadu Buhari and between him and his Lord alone, that choice must definitely not come from the North.  This is the assurance I have gotten from many lovers of United Nigeria of Hausa-Fulani extractions,” the article published by this newspaper seven days ago had said.
