Police arrests 3 over robbery attack on Guardian Editor-in-Chief

Three traffic robbers suspected to have robbed the Editor-In-Chief of Guardian Newspapers,  Debo Adeshina of his personal effects have been arrested by the police.

It would be recalled that the journalist was on his way to the in broad daylight at Oshodi -Oke expressway, Lagos when the hoodlums attacked him in the traffic and made away with his phone, I.D.card, ATM cards and some cash.

Our correspondent gathered that the suspects were arrested by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), an hour after the attack.

Identified as Tunde Segun ‘m’,23 years, Ayo Omoniyi ‘m’, 24 years and Samson Oyeleye ‘m’, 22 years, it was learnt that the arrest of the trio was based on a tip by some commuters who identified them to be specialists in snatching of phones and robbing innocent citizens.

Parading the suspects before crime reporters at the Police headquarters, Ikeja, the Commissioner of Police, Imohinmi Edgal said, “The Lagos State Police Command Rapid Response Squad, Riders unit, posted to Oshodi-Oke Pin-Down Point, on 21/11/2018 at about 1830 hours, arrested three (3) suspects,namely,Tunde Segun ‘m’,23 years, Ayo Omoniyi ‘m’, 24 years and Samson Oyeleye ‘m’, 22 years.

“The aforementioned suspects attacked and robbed the Guardian Newspapers’ Editor-In-Chief on the above mentioned date at about 1730hrs and one hour after the attack, they were arrested.

“The suspects were nabbed following a tip off received from commuters, that hoodlums who specialized in snatching phones and robbing innocent citizens of their belonging during traffic at Oshodi-Oke were in operation.

The CP said, “Armed with the information, I directed the officer in charge of RRS to deploy a team of police riders to Oshodi bridge. On getting there, the men swung into action and arrested the aforementioned suspects.

“They were subsequently searched and a Samsung X8 phone belonging to the Guardian News Paper Editor –in- Chief who was robbed same day at about 1730 hours was recovered from them. Other items belonging to the said journalist, recovered from the thieves include;

Guardian I.D Card bearing the name of one Debo Adesina; and four ATM Cards.

“The suspects confessed to the crime and are giving useful information to the police. I have directed the OC SARS to take over the investigation of the case”, he added.
