*As Presidency prepares Nigerians’ minds against PDP’s diversionary tactics

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the National Assembly and other relevant bodies to immediately open a system-wide investigation into all violations leading to loss of lives and property across the country.

The party made the call in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan on Tuesday in Abuja.

The PDP was however replied by some concerned Nigerians, who asked the opposition party they described as desperate to get relevant at all cost, to show one tension that has risen anywhere in the country that requires such call of its and that, with copious example, it should explain how and what violation led to whatever it called rising tension in the land.

The opposition’s spokesman, Ologbondiyan, said that the legislators must immediately open a system-wide investigation into all violations leading to loss of lives and property across the country.

He expressed concern over the mounting tension, escalating public restiveness, violence and rising cases of extra-judicial killings in the country.

Ologbondiyan said that the frightening situation was precipitated by series of divisive and undemocratic actions and disobedience to court orders and disregard to constitutionally guaranteed rights of citizens.

He said that the PDP rejected the resort to maximum unleashing of state apparatus of power against citizens at the slightest provocation.

He stressed the need for the government to curb bloodletting and extra-judicial killings of compatriots, which were never investigated.

“The PDP believes that the life of every Nigerian is sacred and deserves respect as provided for in the 1999 Constitution (as emended).”

But in his response, one of the concerned citizens who spoke to The DEFENDER under condition of anonymity wanted the PDP to come clear.

“It is just like when Winners Chapel Pastor Oyedepo was the opener of what PDP has now re-echoed when in the last 24 hours he cried out that Nigeria would collapse if killings were not stopped.  We then began to find out which killings again, after the country had got over the ones his likes of religious leaders fomented in collaboration with some truly irresponsible politicians in the country, desperate to discredit President Muhammadu Buhari in the eyes of Nigerians then ride through that back to power to restore and continue their corruption.

“We will never allow these elements in the supposed house of God and in party system to succeed.  We shall stop them not only with our PVC but, more strongly, we shall ensure that our military and other security forces get the morale boost and support that they require to deal decisively with those enemies of Nigeria and persecutors of the masses, whose only interest in government is to feed fat on the commonwealth of the people without caring for how the lives of the people are made to improve,” he said.

The DEFENDER reports Presidency, through a statement by Malam Garba Shehu, President Buhari’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, on Monday described this kind of attitude of the PDP as diversionary tactics and disgraceful.

According to the statement, which centred on the party’s move to go to court to stop President Buhari from contesting in 2019, election that it failed woefully even under its own government to stop him from contesting in 2015, on flimsy excuse of unfounded tale of no West Africa School Certificate (WASC).

“It is clear to all at this time that the PDP, facing an imminent humiliating defeat wants to sow division and chaos by seeking the destruction of the institutional structures that support our young democracy.

“They are attacking the courts and the police, they are molesting INEC commissioners. They are theatrical in spreading falsehoods against persons including the President.

“By doing these, they assume that they can take away attention from the discussions on issues gaining momentum in the country; the issue of internal security which has been jeopardized by years of near-zero investment under 16 years of the PDP; the provision of long-delayed infrastructure which the President is pioneering; corruption to which the PDP is incurably tied and the sustenance of the prevailing good days in the economy, a business-friendly government working day and night, creating more jobs and affordable life for the poor.

“This election isn’t about the settled issues of certification.

“No matter how honeyed their sweet words, don’t believe them.

“Their evil record can never be washed away. The PDP set a record of murdering opponents of government and corruption on a scale never seen anywhere before.

“They put the national security at stake by diverting huge budgetary allocations to service their greed. Don’t believe their honeyed promises,” Malam Garba Shehu had said.
