The Chief Imam of Akure Kingdom, Sheikh AbdulHakeem Yayi Akorede, has in the strongest of terms condemned the gruesome killing of innocent Christian during service at St. Francis Catholic on Owa-Luwa Street, in Owo, Ondo State, on Sunday 5th of June 2022.

The Islamic leader said it is against the divine law for anyone to take another man’s soul unjustly.

According to Quran chapter 5, verses 32. Surat Al-Ma’idah verse 32, Allah says, “We decreed upon the children of Israel that whoever kills a soul unless for a soul (in legal retribution for murder) or corruption (done) in the land, it is as if he had slain mankind entirely. And whoever saves one, it is as if he had saved mankind entirely,” Sheikh Yayi Akorede quoted from the Holy Book.

The Chief Imam noted that the babaric incident at St Francis Catholic Church Owo was a satanic assault on the temple of the creator, house of God and demanded that the perpetrators must not go unpunished.

“We are calling on the law enforcement agencies to as a matter of urgency fish out these evil men and let them face justice.”

Imam Akorede mourned and sympathised “with families of the departed ones, the entire Owo people, the Kabiyesi Olowo of Owo kingdom and the government of Ondo State over this horrible incident.”

He said, “We the entire Muslims of Akure Kingdom are Saddened over the loss of our Catholic brothers and sisters.

“We sincerely pray that Almighty God accept their soul to a peaceful rest in heaven. We pray that God almighty comfort their family and Owo people.”
