Over 16,600 people evacuated from Ukraine, DPR, LPR to Russia in past day

More than 16,600 people, including more than 2,400 children, were evacuated from dangerous regions in Ukraine, and from the Lugansk and Donetsk People’s Republics to Russia during the day, Mikhail Mizintsev, chief of Russia’s National Defense Management Center, said on Monday.

“During the day, as many as 16,648 people, including 2,442 children, were evacuated from dangerous zones in various Ukrainian regions, and from the Lugansk and Donetsk People’s Republics to Russia without the participation of the official authorities, the International Committee of the Red Cross and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. Since the beginning of the special military operation a total of 602,106 people, including 119,847 children, have been evacuated,” he said.

According to Mizintsev, some 2,805 private cars crossed the Russian border on Monday and 72,800 since the beginning of the operation.

He also said that during the day, as many as 1,784cpeople were evacuated via humanitarian corridors from Mariupol without any participation of the Ukrainian side. In all, a total of 125,616 people have been saved from that city.

He noted that most of people who are forcibly kept by nationalists in Ukrainian cities are looking for any possibility to be evacuated to Russia. Over the past day alone, the Russian side received 1,174 such requests, he said, adding that the database has 2,737,109 names and addresses from 2,124 settlements in Ukraine.
