The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) says the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) has a direct link to the NCC’s SIM registration data base in order to monitor and apprehend criminals in the country.

The NCC’s head of Projects Department, Mr Bashir Idris, disclosed this when a delegation from the United States Air War College visited the commission in Abuja.

Mr Idris said the whole essence of the SIM registration exercise started in 2012 was to prevent crimes by monitoring activities of criminals.

He added that about 150 million SIM cards have been properly registered in NCC database so far even as the exercise is still ongoing.

He said the commission has strategic partnership with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) on its database.

Meanwhile, the NCC is to look into areas of possible cooperation with the US war college especially in the area of cyber security.

The NCC’s Executive Vice Chairman, Prof Umar Garba Danbatta who was represented by Mr. Tony Ojobo, Director Media and Publicity stated this when the commission hosted a delegation of students from the US war college in Abuja.

According to Mr. Ojobo while answering questions; the commission is working very hard to make sure that Nigerians have access to telecommunication within every five kilometers.
