Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have shot dead two traditional rulers travelling along a community in Ikole Local Government Area of Ekiti State.

According to our media source, the two traditional rulers have been identified as the Onimojo of Imojo-Ekiti, Oba (Professor) Olatunde Samuel Olushola, whose stool falls under the paramountcy of the Attah of Aiyede Kingdom, Oba AbdulMumini Adebayo Orishagbemi, and the Elesun of Esun-Ekiti, Oba David Babatunde Ogunsakin.

They were said to have been ambushed and killed by the gunmen on Monday January 29, 2024 while the Alara of Ara, Ikole-Ekiti, Oba Adebayo Fatoba, escaped from the scene.

Sources said that the monarchs were returning from a security meeting in Irele-Ekiti in a vehicle being driven by Alara when they were attacked along the road.

When contacted, the police spokesman in the state, Sunday Abutu, reportedly said, “I will get the details and get back please.”

In the meantime, the Chairman of the Ajoni Local Council Development Area, Mr. Micheal Ogungbemi who confirmed the incident, said the gunmen attempted to kidnap the three traditional rulers.
