Ondo State Deputy Governor and a governorship aspirant in the just concluded Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primary election in Ondo State, Hon. Agboola Ajayi, has perfected plans to join the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) ahead of the governorship election on October 10, 2020.

One of the political aides of Ajayi, who spoke under the condition of anonymity, reportedly confirmed the development on Wednesday.

The source said Ajayi had settled for the ZLP to run against his boss, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, and the PDP’s candidate, Eyitayo Jegede after completing necessary consultations with all the concerned parties.

It was reported last week that massive defection looms in the Ondo State PDP following the recently conducted Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Primary election.

The fall out of the primary has exposed the party to the danger of losing the coming governorship election to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State.

Ajayi will officially declare for the ZLP next week according to the source.

It was gathered that some state governors across the ruling APC and the opposition PDP with some PDP leaders in Ondo State, are strongly behind Ajayi in his third force agenda.

The DEFENDER however was unable to pin that down to any why as at the time of filing this report.

It however learned on serious account that Ajayi, if eventually he makes it to ZLP, will have dimmed the dream of Akure Agenda being advanced with Eyitayo Jegede as governorship candidate of the PDP.

With this coming to reality, it was further learned, the coast will be clear for APC’s Akeredolu being that he will be the gainer of the proliferated forces as the only string force against him, PDP, will have suffered a split.
