Offa Varsity takes off, appoints Fola Lasisi Pro-Chancellor

The University of Offa has made key appointments into its Governing Council and Management.

In a bulletin released last week, Prof Fola Lasisi and Prof R. A Lawal were appointed Pro-chancellor/Chairman of Council and Vice-chancellor respectively.

Prof Fola Lassi will chair a Council of 6 other members, all professors in various knowledge disciplines. They are Professors T.O. Ashaolu, A. A. Adesoye, Charles Okojie, N.Y. S. Ijaiya (Mrs.), Odunola Bakare (Mrs.) and Grace Akinola (Mrs.). Four other statutory appointees would serve on the Council.

Privately owned University of Offa is in Offa, Kwara state, and its proprietor, Dr Rasaq Omoniyi Oyewale is Chairman of its Board of Trustees. By these appointments, the University may open its gates to admit staff and students any moment from now.

The Pro-Chancellor-elect, Prof Fola Lasisi, a professor of structural engineering, is a trail blazer Vice chancellor having served as pioneer Vice Chancellor in two Universities: University of Uyo (1991-2000) and Crescent University, Abeokuta (2000-2007). He was Chairman, Committee of Vice – Chancellors of Nigerian Universities 1996-1997. He is a Fellow of various professional bodies including Nigerian Society of Engineers, American Society of Civil Engineers, Nigerian Institute of Agricultural Engineers, and the Nigerian Academy of Engineering.

He is immediate Past President of the Nigerian Academy of Engineering.

The Vice Chancellor-elect, Prof ‘Raheem Adebayo Lawal is a renown poet and language developer who had been at various times Dean, Faculty of Education, University of Ilorin, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, University of Ilorin, and Foundation President, Nigeria Association of Language Educators.
