*As APC candidate defeats Atiku, Obi in El-Rufai’s Kaduna polling unit

Gombe State Governor and North East coordinator of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s All Progressives (Congress)’s Presidential Campaign Council (APC-PCC)’s, Alhaji Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya, lost his polling unit to the Alhaji Atiku Abubakar’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Saturday’s presidential election.

In the result, which was announced to the cheers of voters, the PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar polled 215 to defeat the APC candidate, who secured 186 votes at the unit.

Declaring the result, the Preceding Officer (PO) of the Yahaya Umar 010 polling unit which is located at Government Science Secondary School Gombe, Misheal Thomas revealed that the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) polled 10 votes while Labour Party (LP) got four votes.

Misheal further disclosed that the Action Democratic Party (ADP) scored three votes while the Action Alliance (AA) got one vote.

Governor Yahaya had shortly after casting his vote praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for what he called the wonderful initiative introduced in the 2023 general elections.

He also disclosed that he was satisfied with the conduct of the election in the state. According to him, the process was rankle-free. He however, urged INEC to be more innovative in the future so that things would be easier for everybody.

El-Rufai’s polling unit

Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State has delivered his Polling Unit to the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Asiwaju Bola Tinubu in today’s Presidential election.

In the election result declared by the Presiding Officer of El-Rufai’s polling unit 024 at Ungwan Sariki ward 7, in Kaduna North Local Government area, the APC presidential candidate scored 173 votes to defeat Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party who polled 134 votes.

Mr Peter Obi of the Labour Party scored three votes while Rabiu Kwankwaso of New Nigeria Peoples Party got 20 votes.

Meanwhile, the Vice Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed lost his Polling unit to Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party in Zaria LGA of Kaduna state.

In the result announced by the Presiding Officer of Polling Unit 021 at Tudun Wada ward in Zaria Local Government, PDP scored 102 votes while the APC polled a total of 99 votes to come second.

The Labour Party came a distant third with 54 votes while the NNPP got eleven votes. The total number of accredited voters was 272.

Obi wins in Aso Rock Polling Unit

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, has won the first polling unit (PU) to be declared in the Aso Rock, Abuja vicinity.

At PU 131, which is one of the several units around the premises, he polled 17 votes to beat the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu who got six votes, and their counterpart in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, who garnered three votes.

Earlier, Obi cast his vote at polling unit 19 in the Agulu area of the Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State in Nigeria’s South-East geopolitical zone.

Obi and his wife Margaret cast their vote around 11:45 am on Saturday after following the voting queue for about 30 minutes.

Addressing reporters after he voted, Obi said the process was “seamless”.

Obi, a former Governor of Anambra State from 2006 to 2014, is popular among youths. Many pre-election polls have predicted victory for the 61-year-old businessman who is running alongside Kaduna-based Datti Baba-Ahmed.
