Muhammadu Buhari International Airport, Maiduguri, begins international flights
The Muhammadu Buhari International Airport in Maiduguri has officially commenced international operations, marking a new milestone in the state’s aviation sector.
According to reports by the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), the airport’s international operations kicked off on Thursday January 2, 2025 with the first international flight successfully taking off from the airport.
In a bid to ensure smooth operations, the Borno State Government has donated two fire service trucks to the Muhammadu Buhari International Airport.
The donation is aimed at enhancing the airport’s operational capacity and ensuring the safety of passengers and aircraft.
The commencement of international operations at the Muhammadu Buhari International Airport, Maiduguri is expected to boost economic activities in the state and North East region, increase access to international markets, and promote tourism.
With the airport now operational for international flights, travellers from Borno State and neighbouring states can look forward to easier access to global destinations without having to first travel to Lagos, Abuja or Kano.
The DEFENDER reports that, before the latest development at the Muhammadu Buhari International Airport, Maiduguri on Thursday, Nigeria already had three operational airport from where the nation have been linking the world and they are the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja; Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA), Abuja, and the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA), Kano.
Although Sokoto has the Sultan Abubakar International Airport (SAIA) but international flights that have operated there are limited to Hajj airlifting operations.
