The military operations deployed to stop senseless killings in parts of the country have recorded successes, with particular note of Zamfara State, where the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Air Task Force (ATF) in Operation Diran Mikiya says its troops have killed several bandits in Sububu forest, Birnin Magaji and Rugu forest in the state.

The operation which was an air interdiction and armed reconnaissance mission was conducted between August 9 – 11, 2018.

A statement by NAF spokesperson, Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola, said the attack at Sububu forest was conducted on the August 9, 2018 following discovery of a bandits’ hideout in the forest.

He said the ATF had conducted coordinated clearance operation involving NAF Special Forces at a suspected armed bandits’ camp on the outskirts of Galadi in the Northwest of Zamfara State.

He said troops discovered that the bandits had vacated the hideout camp and dispersed into the nearby Sububu Forest.

“The ATF dispatched a combat aircraft for armed reconnaissance to seek out and destroy the bandits. The aircraft subsequently spotted a large number of bandits within the forest and neutralized them,” Daramola said.
