Meet Professor Mahfouz Adedimeji, the new presidential appointee on NAHCOM Board

Professor Mahfouz Ademola Adedimeji, the Vice Chancellor Ahman Pategi University, Patigi, Kwara State, Nigeria, has just gotten another feather added to his gorgeous cap as Member representing the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) on the Board of National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCOM).

Mahfouz Adedimeji, the pioneer Vice Chancellor of Ahman Pategi University, Patigi, Kwara state, Nigeria, is an interdisciplinary researcher, Fulbright scholar, peace practitioner and public affairs analyst.

Educated at the University of Ilorin, Nigeria, and Governors State University, Illinois, USA, among other institutions, Mahfouz’s career started at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, from where he joined the University of Ilorin in 2001. He was the Head, Directorate of Corporate Affairs, University of Ilorin, from 2008 to 2012 and Director, Centre for Peace and Strategic Studies, at the same university between 2013 and 2017.

A Professor of Pragmatics, Applied English and Peace Linguistics, Prof. Adedimeji was a visiting Associate Professor of English to the University of Abuja, a ex-member of the Governing Council of the International Peace Research Association (IPRA), a member of the Nigeria Inter-religious Council (NIREC) and the Rapporteur-General of the Presidential Retreat Committee on Education in Nigeria (2017-2018).

The award-winning researcher has won the conference grant of the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) and co-won the research grants of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) and Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa (CODESRIA).

Prof. Adedimeji is a Consultant to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Fellow of the Institute of Corporate Administration of Nigeria, International Association of Research Scholars and Administrators (IARSA) and the Society for Peace Studies and Practice (SPSP).

He has attended many academic conferences and presented scores of papers at various academic circles across Nigeria and other countries like Cameroon, Ghana, Kenya, Sierra Leone, Australia, Malaysia, France and USA.

A well sought-after public intellectual, he has served as a Resource Person to various courses including Leadership Course in Preventive Diplomacy and Conflict Resolution (LCPDCR) organised by the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Executive Intelligence Management Course (EIMC 12) of the National Institute for Security Studies, Bwari, Abuja, and Executive Management Courses of the Nigerian Army Education Corps (NAEC).

Prof. Adedimeji has written hundreds of opinion articles for newspapers like ‘Daily Independent,’ ‘National Pilot’, ‘Daily Newswatch’, ‘New Telegraph’ and ‘New York Parrot’.
