The Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for choosing Professor Ibrahim Agboola Gambari as the new Chief of Staff.

It described the choice of the former Nigeria’s Permanent Representative at the United Nations as ideal and most appropriate in view of the calibre of the person chosen.

The MMWG said this in a statement issued by its National Coordinator, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, and copy of which was sent to The DEFENDER on Thursday,

“Professor Ibrahim Gambari apart from being an International Scholar, Public Administrator and Economist, his International Diplomatic experience would further add values to governance in Nigeria, it said.

The group said: “In a Congratulatory Message sent to the new Chief of Staff today (Thursday), the Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria opined that the appointment would   rekindle the hope of all patriotic Nigerians here and abroad in the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

“The Group stated that Nigerians have observed certain weaknesses in the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari. It stated that the Administration that was urshered in with massive votes in 2015 and re-elected in 2019 based on the credibility and integrity of the President, has become subject of criticism due to some unwarranted negative influences; adding that the best that could be done is to rescue the Government that is now being made unpopular due to certain actions, inactions and policies that are affecting the Nigerian people negatively.

“There is no better time therefore than now to change the course of direction of Buhari Administration with people of Professor Gambari’s calibre to redeem the image of the President and that of Nigeria as a Country.  This well-thought-out decision of Mr. President the Group said is highly commendable. It noted that some greedy and egocentric individuals that found themselves in the corridors of power have done alot of damage to the image of the President which Professor Ibrahim Gambari must try as much as possible to reverse.

“Prominent among the isssues raised by the Group is the Anti-Corruption Fight that is nose-diving including re-appointment of some corrupt Chief Executives of some Federal Agencies, Non-confirmation of the Chairman of EFCC till date, Poor economic and diversification strategies that could lead to future economic doom and Non-constitution of many  Federal Commissions, Boards and Agencies which should galvanise performance and proper implementation of Federal Government policies and programmes as well as judicial recklessness which ought to be condemned by the Executive just to mention a few.

“Finally, MMWG said the appointment of the new Chief of Staff came when hope was nearly lost in redeeming the image of Federal Government, adding that the emergence of Professor Gambari has rescusitated the hope of good governance in Nigeria to silence critics and redirect the course of Governance not only at Federal Level but all over the Federation with better Foreign Policy Initiatives.

“The Group wished the PMB Administration total success in its desire to transform the Nation to a better Country, the group said in the statement dated 21st Ramadan, 1441 /  14th May, 2020.
