*Kano Govt warns against spread of fake news over incident

Information reaching us says an explosion has occurred in the Sabon Gari, Fagge Local Government Area of Kano State, leaving several people injured with some feared killed.
Eyewitness accounts have it that although details of the blast and its cause are still sketchy but visuals from the scene show that it affected some buildings and left several injured including school children but, definitely, the explosion did not happen in the school in the area.
The visuals also confirm that the blast might have claimed several lives with at least one corpse seen on the floor.
A crowd had gathered right after the blast with some people trying to help the injured and others lamenting the damage.
Initial visuals from the explosion site showed several schoolchildren being moved away from the scene. One of them was injured, which led to suggestion by those who earlier claimed the explosion occurred in a school. But the Kano State Government has said that was not the case.
Our effort to get the Kano State Commissioner for Information, Malam Muhammad Garba, to detail us about the truth of the development did not succeed as our text message to him was not returned as at the time of filing this report.
Reportedly, however, the Commissionersaid in a statement that the blast happened at an animal feed store opposite the school.
In the meantime, investigation into the root cause and extent after effect of the occurrence has commenced, to enable authorities know what measures to be taken, Garba said.
He called on people in the state, particularly those living in the area where the incident occurred to remain calm while the government works with relevant agencies on the matter.
He cautioned the public against spreading unsubstantiated news and gave the assurance that the government would keep the public updated on any development on the matter.
