Kwara Ulamau Council condemns rejection of Hijab use by CAN

The Kwara State Council of Ulamau at weekend buttressed the position of the Emir of Ilorin and Chairman Kwara State Council of Chiefs, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, on the need to maintain peace among religions’ adherents in the state.

The group in a statement issued by its Chairman and Chief Imam of Ilorin, Dr. Muhammad Bashir Soliu OON, condemning the rejection of the use of hijab in public schools by the Christian Association of Nigeria, (CAN).

He noted that “Ilorin Emirate is in the forefront of advocacy for peace and unity among the diverse ethnic and religious groups in the state and it is our desire that our Christian brothers and sisters obey the rule of law and constituted authorities on the matter of Hijab.”

According to him, “No religion preaches war, enemity, destruction and public disturbances. It is out of place for any group to incite its followers against the government in a bid to weep undeserving sentiment among the vast majority in the society.”

The Chief Imam however maintained that, “We appeal to our brothers in Islam to remain calm and understanding on the matter and we also advise Christian groups to retrace their steps towards peaceful resolution and respect the rule of law as well as cooperate with the Kwara State government in order to promote unity, love and progress in the society.
